Oversized wooden gavel with APCO logo was presented during the 1969 Mid-Eastern Chapter meeting to then Chapter President, Weldon Hale, of the Mid-Eastern Chapter as a gift to the chapter from Herbert A. Friede of the District of Columbia. The gavel was turned from wood discarded during the 1950 White House remodeling, under then President Harry S. Truman, 33rd President of the United States (1945-1953). The gavel was authenticated by a seal and bore a brass placard inscribed as follows: "Herbert A. Friede Illustrous Potentate 1957". Prior to its presentation to the chapter, the gavel was presentd to Mr. Friede and then Commissioner Renah F. Camalier of the District of Columbia. The band was removed and returned to Mr. Friede.
