This Life Member Luncheon had major significance as it was the last time that APCO life member and winner of the J. Rhett McMillian Award Art McDole from APCO CPRA Chapter was in attendance. He was the oldest living APCO life member, who passed away the following year at ninety two years old. Linda Ford writes: "During [the luncheon], Art McDole came up with idea of making a list and adding up all the years of APCO Int'l membership for everyone there in attendance--56 Life Members. The list was passed around, years added up, and to everyone's shock, the total years was read aloud-- 1,731 years in total right there in the room! He [Art] had 61 years in, Helen Rushing had 53 years in, and Matt Stillwell has the fewest so far--at 16 years." "I was most fortunate to share my "date", Art, with Helen--such elite company to be in! He [Art] was the oldest living active member of APCO, and at ninety two he was still running circles around me. He was amazing, the stories he told were spell-binding!" |
